Our process
Used Cooking Oils should not be discarded as regular waste. Improper disposal is a serious environmental issue and can also lead to high repair and maintenance costs for sewage systems and water treatment plants. On the other hand, non-compliance with regulations can result in fines for businesses in the HORECA sector and industry. Moreover, UCO is an important raw material for the production of “green fuel” biofuels, contributing to a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, exceeding 80%.
Our containers
OGREEN’s oil collection bins are metal, leak-proof, and robust equipment installed on the surface, designed to handle all types of containers with a maximum capacity of up to 10 liters.
Our oil bins come in three possible configurations: Oil bin with two lateral openings, Oil bin with a drum deposition system and Oil bin with a drawer deposition system.
The oil bins feature simple, modern lines with carefully selected materials, enabling them to blend seamlessly into both urban and rural environments. The exterior steel structure ensures the equipment is theft-resistant, as the bin is fixed to the ground at four attachment points. It is fire-resistant with finishes that provide corrosion protection, anti-oxidation, and UV resistance, as well as protection against atmospheric conditions. The bins are coated with cathaphoretic and electrostatic paint and feature a spill-proof system due to the exterior structure and the watertightness of the internal container, which has a capacity of 220L.
Dashboard
Based on IoT (Internet of Things) technology, we build intelligent waste management networks that reduce costs and increase efficiency. Through technology, OGREEN aims to redefine waste management circuits, adding value to the production chain by promoting multiple channels for waste recovery and monetization.
The OGREEN waste management platform provides access to various information, including:
Location and number of installed equipment, Real-time fill levels of each oil bin/container, along with the collection history, Deposit count by oil bin/container, Date of the last collection, Total amount collected, by oil bin/container, Access to all e-GARs and issued guides, CO2 avoided calculation, Control of monetization generated through proper waste routing, among other KPIs.
Pré-tratamento
OGREEN receives all collected Used Cooking Oil (UCO) at its production facility, where it controls the specifications in the laboratory to ensure the harmonization and quality of the raw material.
Armazenamento
The process of receiving Used Cooking Oils results in the temporary storage of the raw material for its subsequent forwarding to the biorefineries.
Refinarias
The refinement of used cooking oil before its reuse in biofuels involves several steps to remove impurities and ensure quality. First, the oil undergoes a filtration process to eliminate solid residues, such as food scraps. Next, decantation is performed to separate water and other contaminants. Then, a chemical neutralization process is carried out to remove acids and gums. Finally, the oil is purified and esterified, transforming it into biodiesel through a chemical reaction with methanol and a catalyst, resulting in a sustainable and less polluting fuel.
Reutilização
1,000 liters of used cooking oils can produce between 920 and 980 liters of biodiesel, a fuel that has carbon dioxide emission levels up to 80% lower than those emitted when using fossil-derived diesel.
100% of the waste materials received by OGREEN are fully dedicated to the green fuel value chain – biofuels, intended for the road, maritime, and aviation sectors, with the aim of supporting decarbonization.
Our results in numbers
UCO Collection
OGREEN’s UCO collection activity falls within the scope of ISCC-EU certification and aims to provide an appropriate response to the following questions:
- Environmental – Improper disposal of UCO can lead to environmental contamination. UCO is also a crucial raw material for biofuel production, contributing to greater circularity and sustainability in the economy while reducing greenhouse gas emissions by replacing fossil-based fuels.
- Operational – Poor UCO management can result in high repair and maintenance costs for city sewage and wastewater treatment systems.
- Legal – Non-compliance with legal regulations governing UCO management may lead to fines for economic operators producing this type of waste.
Production sources
UCO collection and recovery services aim to ensure the sustainable disposal of this type of waste and include the following production sources:
- HORECA – Operators in the hospitality, restaurant, and café sectors.
- Industry – Operators in economic sectors not included in the HORECA channel.
- Domestic/Municipal – Domestic operators who dispose of UCO through direct delivery, by depositing it in containers (or other receptacles) provided by the operator, or indirectly, by using municipal containers collected by the operator.
UCO recovery is not carried out directly by the operator but is facilitated through the sale of this waste for biofuel production.
Smart Waste Management
In addition to UCO collection, OGREEN provides cleaning services for equipment associated with the management of this waste at production sites.
In the field of smart waste management solutions, the company’s activity aims to provide municipalities and businesses with greater insight into their waste production. This enables more informed decision-making based on representative data, optimizing waste management processes—such as defining collection routes and frequencies, vehicle load distribution, and container placement. Additionally, it promotes overall cost reduction and minimizes the environmental impact (GHG emissions) of these waste management processes.
